DIY Natural Deodorant (Coconut Oil Recipe)

Create your own effective, non-toxic deodorant at home using simple, skin-friendly ingredients. This formula balances odor control, moisture absorption, and smooth application without harsh chemicals or synthetic fragrances.

🌿 Ingredients

Optional essential oils:

  • Lavender (calming, floral)
  • Tea tree (strong antibacterial)
  • Peppermint (cooling, fresh)
  • Eucalyptus (clean, invigorating)

🧴 Instructions

  1. Melt base ingredients
In a small saucepan over low heat, gently melt coconut oil and shea butter until fully liquid.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, combine bentonite clay and arrowroot powder until evenly blended.
  3. Combine mixtures
Slowly add dry ingredients into the melted oils, stirring continuously to avoid clumping.
  4. Add essential oils
Once slightly cooled (but still liquid), add essential oils and mix thoroughly.
  5. Transfer to container
Pour into a clean glass jar like a small Mason jar, or these ones from Amazon.
  6. Set
Allow to cool at room temperature or refrigerate for faster solidifying.

❄️ How to Use

Apply a small pea-sized amount to clean, dry underarms. Allow a minute to absorb before dressing.

💡 Tips & Notes

  • A little goes a long way—start with a small amount to avoid residue.
  • In warmer climates, store in a cool place to prevent melting.
  • If irritation occurs, reduce essential oil concentration or switch to a gentler oil like lavender.
  • Transitioning from conventional deodorant may take 1–2 weeks as your body adjusts.

🌱 Why This Works

This formula replaces aluminum-based antiperspirants with natural ingredients that help manage odor and moisture while allowing your skin to breathe. Coconut oil and essential oils help reduce odor-causing bacteria, while clay and arrowroot powder help absorb excess moisture.
